Karen Morrison came to talk with us about what she does at Rocinate High School. She is a counselor who uses books
to help students cope with issues that they may already face or issues that they may face in the future. She has started
a book club, thanks to a grant, to give reluctant readers a chance to read in a nonthreatening environment. She has
really done something special for her students.
Connie Gotsch came and shared the books she has written and those that she is writing. She shared with us the Hero's
Quest and broke it down so that we could see other stories that followed this format. We talked about fairy tales that
followed the Hero's Quest and the book she wrote that also follows it. She also reminded us that if we followed the
Hero's Quest in every story that they would become predictable and boring, so it is okay to make stories your own. It
was very nice of Connie to come and I look forward to reading a few of her books.
