Author Study:

The author I chose was Robin Pulver.  I have not read all of her books but my favorite is "Mrs. Toggle's Zipper".  I remember reading this when I was a child and thinking that it was so funny that a teacher couldn't get out of her coat.  I use to think that teachers were perfect people and this story goes to show us that they are just people like everyone else.

Her Professional Website has provided me with the following information:

Robin Pulver was born the day WWII ended.  She lived in upstate New York during part of her childhood.  Learning to read was an exciting time in her life and it continued to be as she grew older.  She also grew very fond of writing and she knew that was something she wanted to pursue.  She got married and had children but writing was always one of her favorite activities.

Illustrator Study:  Anne Magill

One of the only books that I have seen Anne's work in is "Jessie's Journey" by Angela McAllister.  I find her style of art unique and beautiful.  Her work seems very nontraditional for a picture book and I think that is why I like it.  For me her pictures must be looked at up close and then from further away because the picture looks different.

"Born in County Down, Northern Ireland in 1962, Anne Magill studied at St. Martins School of Art in London. Anne Magill is one of the art world’s best-kept secrets, with work held in corporate and Private Collections worldwide, including those of an astonishing list of Hollywood stars.  Magill’s figures reside in the twentieth century but have a timeless quality, where the edges that define generations or period are blurred."
