Dr. Peele-Eady

Dr. Peele-Eady came to visit with our class today while we were attending the E3 museum.  I was very excited about having a guest speaker but at the same time very distracted because we were in the museum.  I respected her for asking everyone's name and really trying to make a connection with our class.  She felt like she knew me and I do get this a lot but at the same time I felt like I knew her as well.

She came to talk to us about diversity and how we should deal and to make us think about our own perceptions of others.  One of my favorite points was the way we think when we here someone on the phone.  I myself get very annoyed when I call these companies for tech help and I can't understand the people.  We all make ideas and judgments about a person when we speak to them on the phone.

Dr. Peele-Eady shared lot of valuable information with our class and I will remember it probably forever.  I think she would be a very interesting person to just have a conversation with outside of a school environment.  Our closing activity was a piece of paper with a child written on it.  We were to crumple it every time she said a negative remark.  After it was over we opened the paper and even though we tried to smooth it out the crinkles wouldn't go away.  With that with positive comments we may feel better but the negative remarks never completely go away.

Sunny Dooley- Storyteller

Sunny Dooley is a storyteller who captures the attention of not only children but also (if not more) adults.  The capability to tell stories that put vivid pictures into the minds of the audience is a true art.  I was not sure what to expect as I sat down to enjoy the story of another.  I was truly amazed at how Sunny was able to speak two languages throughout her story without losing the attention of the listeners.  Her humor was alluring as it added much excitement to her story.  I was also surprised to see that many of the children were truly interested the whole hour and that most of them stayed seated and still until their guest had finished speaking.  This was an enjoyable experience for me as I am very unaware of the types of stories that other cultures or families share.
